Dancer Of The Week-Angela
Who is Angela ?
I am creative, bold, energetic, and a little edgy. I am also loving, passionate, kind, and full of life. It makes me happy to encourage and motivate others to be their best and win in every situation.
Where are you from?
I was born in Yuba City, California. So, technically I'm a west coast girl! I moved to Orlando, Florida where I was raised and introduced to dance.
Where are you located?
Sanford, FL right outside of Orlando
What style of dance do you do?
I love ALL forms of creative movement, but I gravitate to Jazz Funk style, hip hop, jazz, and modern dance.
What does dance mean to you?
Dance has played so many roles in my life. It started out just being something I wanted to try because I believed that I could do it. But as I continued, I found that throughout my life it kept me from a lot of the drama that most people my age got into. Dance became my counselor when I had hard times, and my escape to be someone different, somewhere different, and the ability to connect to something that was outside of what I experienced on a daily basis. I've have been loved by dance, rejected by dance and saved by dance. It's because of dance that I found out how strong I really am.
When did you start dancing?
In 2001, during my 8th grade year, I was apart of a pep squad. My coach thought I had raw talent and told me I should audition for the dance program at Dr. Phillips High School (the performing arts magnet school in Orlando, FL). I used the cheer routine from my dance squad for my audition solo, and they accepted me into the program! The rest is history. I've been dancing for 14 years.
Why did you start dancing?
I knew I wanted to dance after I volunteered for a fundraiser at a dance studio my friend attended. That day as I watched the classes that were in session, I remember knowing that I wanted to be a dancer.
How does dancing make you feel?
Dance makes me feel like I've found my purpose in life, and I want to share that with the world. When I dance I feel closer to God, and that makes my soul smile.
